ALPINE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' softball team dropped an American Southwest Conference doubleheader to Sul Ross State, 11-0 and 9-1, on Friday evening in Alpine.
Destinie Hernandez had a two-run double in the first inning and Alexis Trotter had a two-run double in the second inning to propel the Lobos out to a 4-0 lead. The Lobos out the run-rule in effect with six runs in the fourth inning.Gabby Ortega (0-6) took the loss for the Cowgirls allowing 10 earned runs on 11 hits. Genia Salazar got the final out.
Cierra Woodyard had the only hit for the Cowgirls. Alexis Trotter and Destanie Hernandez each had two hits and drove in three runs for the Lobos.
Destine Hernandez had a two-run double and Jennifer Flores had a two-run home run as the Lobos took early control of game two with four runs in the first.
Kirsten Kenyon had an RBI single in the third inning for the Cowgirls.
Sul Ross added a single run in the third and two each in the fourth and fifth to put the run-rule in effect.
The Cowgirls had six hits in the second game, with Christina Blevins picking up two of them.
Lexie Allen (0-3) took the loss allowing eight earned runs on 10 hits in four and one-third innings.
Trotter, Hernandez and Flores had two hits each for the Lobos. Flores went the distance in the circle allowing one run on six hits to improve to 2-0.
The Cowgirls are now 0-10 on the year and 0-5 in ASC play. Sul Ross State improved to 7-2 overall and 5-0 in ASC play. The teams will play a single game at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
