Cowgirls Drop Series Finale With UTD

ABILENE, Texas -- Hardin-Simmons softball team dropped its series finale with UT Dallas, 11-0 in five innings, on a chilly Saturday afternoon at Ellis Field.

UTD opened the game with six runs in the first inning and added single runs in the second and third innings and had three more in the fifth inning.

Allie Stephens tossed a four-hit shutout for the Comets to improve to 6-4. Gabby Ortega worked three innings for HSU and fell to 0-19. She allowed five earned runs. Genia Salazar worked the final two innings.

Shadye Millican, Hillarie Carpenter, Amanda Tokunaga and Mercedes Ruiz each had hits for the Cowgirls. Amber Williams and Emily Schroeder had three hits each for UTD.

HSU is now 1-31 overall and 1-23 in conference play. UTD improved to 17-11 overall and 13-5 in conference action. HSU will play at Ozarks next weekend.
