CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – Hardin-Simmons' softball team dropped a doubleheader in American Southwest Conference action at the University of the Ozarks on Saturday, 2-1 and 4-3.
Hailey Ostrander put Ozarks on the board in the second inning with an RBI single and Katie Ventress made it 2-0 in the third inning with a solo home run.
Amanda Tokunaga had a solo home run for the Cowgirls in the fifth inning to cut the deficit in half.
Hannah Oler went the distance and allowed just one run and struck out five to improve to 2-9 on the year for Ozarks. Ventress had two hits to pace the Eagles.
HSU jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Cierra Woodyard scored on a wild pitch. Oler tied the game in the bottom of the first inning on a sacrifice fly.
Ozarks took a 3-1 lead in the fifth inning on a two-run home run by Brooke Hoffsomer.
HSU tied the game in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run single by Kaitlyn McCoy.
Ozarks scored the winning run in the sixth inning on an RBI single by Riki Haase.
Haase and Megan Madden had two hits each for Ozarks. Ventress went the distance in the circle and improved to 2-2.
HSU is now 1-33 overall and 1-25 in ASC action. Ozarks improved to 6-18 overall and 6-14 in league play. The teams will conclude the series with a single game at noon on Sunday.
