Cowgirls Win At UMHB

BELTON, Texas - Hardin-Simmons won its American Southwest Conference women's tennis West Division opener 5-4 over Mary Hardin-Baylor, Saturday afternoon in Belton.

The Cowgirls fell behind 2-1 after doubles action, but were able to win four of the six singles matches to secure the victory.

Lisa Mertz won 6-2, 6-2 over Mallory Aarhus at No. 1 singles and she teamed with Brittany Brazell for an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles.

Brazell won at No. 3 singles with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Rebecca Everett. Jennifer Cheung and Danielle Cochran had straight set wins at No. 5 and 6 singles, respectively.

HSU is now 4-1 overall and 1-0 in ASC West action. UMHB is 0-2 overall and 0-1 in league play.
