Cowgirls Fall in ASC Final

TYLER, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' women's tennis saw its 75-match American Southwest Conference winning streak and seven-year reign as ASC champion come to an end with a 5-2 loss to UT-Tyler in the ASC Finals at the Summers Tennis Center in Tyler.

UTT took a 2-1 lead after doubles. Tracy Henington and Lisa Mertz held on for a 9-7 win at No. 1 doubles for the Cowgirls, but HSU lost 8-6 at No. 2 and 8-3 at No. 3 doubles

HSU tied the match at 2-2 when Henington cruised in her final match as a Cowgirl, a 6-0, 6-0 win in No. 1 singles over Rachel Anders. The Cowgirls lost the first set in the other five singles matches, including tight sets at No. 5 and No. 6 singles.

Michelle Hagler at No. 3 singles defeated the Cowgirls Brittany Brazell 6-0, 6-3 to make it 3-2. Nicole Barrett then finished off Jennifer Chueng 6-3, 6-2, at No. 4 singles to make it 4-2. Beth Launius then defeated Mertz 6-3, 6-4 to seal the match for UTT.

HSU finished its season with a record of 11-7 and UT-Tyler moved to 17-3 on the year.
