HSU Has Solid Meet At Trinity
SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Hardin-Simmons' track and field teams had a solid showing at the Trinity Invitational on Friday in San Antonio and six athletes competed in the Texas Relays earlier in the day.
The Cowboys set five school records on the day in the 400, 4x100, 110 hurdles, triple jump and shot put. The Cowgirls set school records in the 100, 200, discus and hammer.
At the Texas Relays, Derek Footer finished 10th in the college division 100 hurdles with a school record 14.87. The time provisionally qualified him for the NCAAs. Jayci Shelton hit a couple of hurdles and finished with a 16.87 in the 100 hurdles. The 4x400 team of Aaron Livingston, Kaitlin Roberts, Halee Edwards and Lauren Rodgers ran a 4:01.16.
At Trinity, Livingston ran a 12.77 in the 100 to lead the sprinters. She ran a 26.40 in the 200 to lead the Cowgirls. Shelton ran a 1:01.15 in the 400. Roberts ran a 2:30.55 in the 800. Julia Holub ran a 5:15.81 and a 20:00,73 in the 5000.
Shelton ran a 15.90 in the 100 hurdles to lead the Cowgirls. The 4x100 ran a 50.02 and the 4x400 team did not run at Trinity after running earlier in the day at the Texas Relays. Martika Davis had a 13-2 long jump.
Shannon Shipp threw a 25-8 and Branell Falcon a 25-2 in the shot put. Shipp threw a 110 in the discus and Falcon had a 83-1 and Rebecca Loney had a 77-0 throw in the discus. Falcon had a 133-11 in the hammer throw and Shipp threw a 11-03. Loney led the javelin throwers with a 97-04 to place fifth.
Patrick Adams ran a 11.24 100 to place 12th. He was the fastest of five Cowboys that ran the 100. He ran a 22.94 200. Daniel Kaplinski ran a 50.58 400 meters and 2:06 800. Tyson Denton ran a 2:10.39 800.
Derek Footer bettered his school record to win the 110 hurdles. He ran a 14.72 after going 14.87 earlier in the day. The 4x100 team ran a 44.06 and the 4x400 ran a 3:35.81.
Adams had a 42-8 triple jump and Zeth Barron had a 18-7 long jump.
Dustin Baker went 42-4 for a fifth place throw in the shot put and Justin Grey had a 41-3 ¼. Grey was ninth in the discus with a 133-7 and Baker had a 132-6 in the hammer.
Bryce Bevill had a 142-0 toss in the javelin.
