Cowgirls Sweep Mary Hardin-Baylor

ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' volleyball team swept Mary Hardin-Baylor, 25-22, 25-22, 25-18,  in the American Southwest Conference opener for both schools on Tuesday night at the Mabee Complex in Abilene.

HSU opened up an early 8-3 in the first set before the Cru rallied to tie it at 20. HSU led 23-22 when Morgan Prince and Allison Kuster had back-to-back kills to win the first set.

It was similar in the second set as the Cowgirls led 23-18, before UMHB scored four straight to make it 23-22. Meagan Bauer had back-to-back kills for the win.

In the third set, HSU jumped out to a 9-2 lead and controlled the set throughout to earn the sweep over the previously unbeaten Cru.

Meagan Bauer led the Cowgirl effort with 15 kills and Allison Kuster added 11. HSU had a .269 hitting percentage in the match.

Defensively, Leecia DePaula led the way with 15 digs as the Cowgirls limited the Cru to a .126 hitting percentage. The Cowgirls had nine blocks in the match and Grace Schulz paced the team with four.

Sarah Paolini led UMHB with 12 kills and Haleigh Evans had 17 digs.

HSU is now 3-6 on the year and 1-0 in conference play. UMHB fell to 8-1 on the year and 0-1 in ASC play. The Cowgirls play at crosstown rival McMurry on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
