Cowgirls Fall To McMurry

ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' volleyball team lost 25-17, 20-25, 25-23, 25-17 to crosstown rival McMurry in American Southwest Conference action at Kimbrell Arena on Wednesday night.

McMurry came out strong and took the first game 25-17. HSU responded with a 25-20 win in the second game that included a 20-minute delay when the lights went out in the arena.

The pivotal game came in the third game and the Cowgirls made a late push to take a 23-22 lead but McMurry scored the final three points of the set for the win. McMurry jumped to an early 5-0 lead in the fourth game and never trailed to take the set and match.

Grace Schulz and Morgan Prince each had 12 kills for the Cowgirls as the team was held to an .080 hitting percentage. Allison Kuster led the defensive effort with eight digs.

Justice McGowan led McMurry with 12 kills and Odalis Rodriguez had 16 digs,

The Cowgirls are now 3-7 on the year and 1-1 in conference play. McMurry improved to 7-2 overall and 1-0 in league play. HSU returns to action this weekend at the Trinity Tournament in San Antonio.
