SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' volleyball team split a pair of matches on the final day of the Trinity Invitational on Saturday afternoon in San Antonio.
Southwestern 3, HSU 0
The Cowgirls put up a great effort in the first match against the No. 2 ranked team in the nation Southwestern before falling, 25-22, 25-19, 25-20.
The first game was tied at 20, before Southwestern scored three straight points to take a 23-20 and the Pirates held on for the set. In the second set, Southwestern used a 10-2 run midway through to take control. In the final game, HSU trailed 22-20 before the Pirates scored the final three points for the win.
HSU 3, Texas Lutheran 0
The Cowgirls avenged a loss earlier in the season to Texas Lutheran with a 32-30, 25-19, 25-23 win.
TLU took an early 5-0 lead in the first game, but the Cowgirls rallied to tie the score at 16. TLU then went on to take a 24-20 lead, but the Cowgirls came back and fought off four set points to tie it at 24 and eventually won 32-30.
HSU took control in game two with a 12-3 run to take a 18-9 lead and held on for the win. In the decisive third game, the teams went back and forth and TLU led 22-21, but HSU scored four of the final five points for the win.
Morgan Prince led the Cowgirls with 11 kills in the match and Kuster had a double-double with 10 kills and a team-best 13 digs. DePaula added 12 digs and Ashley Pierce had a double-double with 19 assists and 11 digs.
HSU is now 4-9 on the year and will return to action on Tuesday when it hosts ASC West leader Concordia at 6 p.m. at the Mabee Complex.
