Cowgirls Place Second At HSU Invitational
ABILENE, Texas — Hardin-Simmons' women's cross country team opened its season with a second place finish at the HSU Cross Country meet on Saturday morning at Sea Bee Park in Abilene.
Western Texas College won the meet with 30 points, Hardin-Simmons had 39 points, Ranger College was third with 64 points, Howard Payne was fourth with 98 points and Sul Ross State was fifth with 115 points.
Sharlene Nickel and Abigail Gonzales of Western Texas College finished 1-2 in the three-mile race. Nickel ran a 19:05.
Julia Holub led the Cowgirl runners with a third-place finish with a 20:06. Freshman Morgan Yarbrough ran a 21:10 for seventh place and Maloree Kendall also had a top 10 finish with a 21:22, which was good for eighth and Jessica Thorman placed 10th with a 22:27.
Dani Siegert (22:28), Whitney Browning (24:01), Whitney Rankin (24:36) and Maggie Perry (25:14) also ran for the Cowgirls.
The Cowgirls will next be in action on Sept. 16 in San Antonio.
