Hardin-Simmons’ women’s soccer team advanced to the
final of the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament
with a 5-0 win over Mary Hardin-Baylor, Saturday afternoon at the
HSU Soccer Complex.
HSU dominated the game from the outset, as Miranda Bersosa scored
in the opening minute off a corner kick from Katie Kuykendall.
Bersosa scored again at the 30:52 mark on a double assist that
went from Carlyn Powers to Katie Kuykendall, who sent it across the
box to Bersosa.
Amy Kuykendall got on the board at the 51:08 mark on a nice pass
from Taylor Thigpen. Kelsey Byars scored in the 66th minute off a
corner kick from Kylie Rutherford.
Allison Ray had the Cowgirls final goal at the 68:10 mark.
The Cowgirls outshot UMHB 30-2 in the game, including 11-0 on
goal. Christi Carr and Becca Roth handled the duties in goal for
the Cowgirls.
HSU (17-1) will be looking for its seventh straight ASC title on
Sunday at 1 p.m. when it hosts Texas-Dallas (7-7-6). HSU won the
regular-season meeting, 3-1 in Richardson.

Texas-Dallas advanced to the American Southwest
Conference final with an 11-10 advantage in penalty kicks over
Texas-Tyler, Saturday afternoon at the HSU Soccer Complex.
Neither team was able to score in the 110 minutes of game field
action and for the second straight day UTD advanced via penalty
kicks.
UTT had a 19-8 advantage in shots in the match and a 7-1 advantage
on goal. Katelyn Flory was stellar in goal with seven saves in the
shutout for UTD.
