UTD, UMHB Advance On Day One Of ASC Tournament

ABILENE, Texas - Mary Hardin-Baylor and Texas-Dallas each advanced to the semifinals of the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament, Friday afternoon at the HSU soccer complex.

Mary Hardin-Baylor 1, East Texas Baptist 0

Mary Hardin-Baylor received a goal from Erin Salyer at the 60:28 mark to give the Cru a 1-0 win over East Texas Baptist. The ball was sent into the box and ETBU goalkeeper Tamara Carlisle tried to come out to get the ball but Salyer got just enough of the ball to redirect it into the empty goal. It was the 13th goal of the season for Salyer.

Allyson Sargeant had six saves for UMHB in the evenly played contest and Carlisle had three and ETBU's Jenna Jones also saved a ball of the line right before halftime. ETBU out shot UMHB 11-10 in the game and 6-5 on goal.

The Cru will play Hardin-Simmons in the first semifinal on Saturday at 11 a.m. HSU won the regular-season meeting 4-0 in Belton.

Texas-Dallas 2, Mississippi College 2 (UTD advances 4-1 on PKs)

After a scoreless first half, UTD and MC put on an offensive barrage in the second half. Andrea Jones scored off a nice cross from Brittany Ansel at the 55:42 mark to give UTD a lead.

MC came back with a pair of nice goals from Kimberly Kaim off Samantha Greco assists. The first was a one-timer from the top of the box that hit off the post and rattled in at the 66:52 mark. MC retook the lead when Greco sent a ball into the box and Kaim chipped over the keeper to make it 2-1.

UTD then showed their toughness as they received a corner with about :20 to play. With the whole team including keeper Katelyn Flory racing against the clock to get in the box, Katie Makanani received a perfect corner kick from Emily George on the back post and she hit it home to tie the game and send it to overtime.

Neither team scored in the two overtimes and the game went to penalty kicks. UTD made all four of its attempts and MC missed its first two, before making the third. Andrea Jones, who played forward all game was the keeper for UTD in the PK session. The game goes down as a tie in both team's record.

UTD outshot MC 19-17 and MC had the lead 9-5 on goal.

The Comets will take on Texas-Tyler in the second semifinal on Saturday at 2 p.m. UTD beat UTT last Thursday 2-1 in double overtime to earn a spot into the tournament field.
