Cowboys Split Doubleheader At Schreiner
KERRVILLE, Texas -- Hardin-Simmons' baseball team split a doubleheader on Saturday losing 3-2 in 10 innings and battling back for a 9-1 win in the nightcap to take the weekend series at Schreiner two games to one.

Game 1

In the first game, the Cowboys jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a squeeze bunt by Elijah Perez. Schreiner answered with two runs in the fourth inning on a pair of RBI groundouts.

HSU tied the game in the sixth on a RBI single by Kyle Johnson.

Then the pitchers locked in the rest of the way until the 10th inning when Schreiner got a double by Elliott and he moved up on an error and scored on a wild pitch.

Johnson and Taylor Cooling had two hits each for the Cowboys. George Elliott had two hits for the Mountaineers.

Garrett Johnston started and worked four innings allowing two runs. Chandler Carter then worked three scoreless innings and Blake Northrop worked the final inning and two-third and took the loss. Robert Baker worked the final three and one-third innings for Schreiner to earn the win.

Game 2

Ty Englehardt worked five innings and Mike Richardson pitched two scoreless innings as the Cowboys combined on a three-hitter.

Gunny Evans put the Cowboys on the board in the second inning with an RBI single and Schreiner tied it on a squeeze bunt in the bottom of the frame. The Cowboys scored an unearned run in the third and added an RBI by Cade Johnson in the fourth to make it 3-1.

Tyson Mauser had his first career RBI with an RBI single in the fifth and HSU scored three times in the sixth. Colton Parker and Jake Todd had RBI doubles in the inning and another run scored on a wild pitch. The Cowboys scored two runs in the seventh on a two-run single by Dylan Sweeney.

Nick Gutierrez took the loss for Schreiner allowing three runs (one earned) in three innings. Three different Mountaineers had hits in the game.

Sweeney had two hits and drove in two runs for the Cowboys.

The Cowboys are now 3-3 on the year and the Mountaineers are 4-5. The Cowboys will have its home opener on Tuesday against McMurry at 3 p.m.
