RICHARDSON, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' baseball team split an American Southwest Conference doubleheader at UT Dallas on Saturday, winning the first game 6-2 and falling 3-0 in the nightcap, on Friday at the UTD Baseball Field.
Jaxon Terrell improved to 2-2 on the year as he went the distance allowing only two runs over seven innings for the Cowboys.
The Cowboys scored two times in the top of the first inning. Tyler Bradshaw had an RBI single and Garrett Buckner added an RBI groundout. The Comets tied it in the first inning when Patch Healy and Austin Blanford had RBI singles.
Dominguez added an RBI single in the fourth inning and Dylan Sweeney had a solo home run in the fifth inning.
Dominguez led the Cowboys with three hits. Healy had two hits for UTD.
The Cowboys received a good effort from starter Brady Roper (0-3), who allowed just three runs on four hits in seven innings of work, but the offense could scratch against a pair of UTD pitchers. Chase Buchannan threw a scoreless eighth inning.
Blake Divalerio (1-1) earned the win as he worked six and two-third scoreless innings. Logan McPherson worked the final two and one-third innings for the save.
UTD scored two runs in the third on a Thomas Craig RBI double and a Healy RBI single. Blanford added an RBI triple in the eighth.
Tople had two of the eight Cowboy hits. UTD had five different players with one hit each.
HSU is now 3-8 overall and 2-3 in league play. UTD improved to 6-7 overall and 1-1 in ASC action. The teams will play the rubber game of the series at noon on Saturday.
