ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' baseball team fell 15-8 to Southwestern on Tuesday evening at Hunter Field in non-conference action.
Southwestern scored two runs in the first inning. Ethan Hallmark and Byron Dowdell had RBI hits in the inning. HSU responded with three runs in the first on a three-run double by Matthew Lillard.
HSU added a single run in the second to make it 4-2. Southwestern scored three times in the third including a two-run home run by Dowdell. Lillard homered in the third to make it 5-5.
Southwestern added a single run in the fourth, three in the fifth and two more in the sixth. HSU had a run in the fifth on a wild pitch and two more in the sixth on a Cade Johnson home run.
Southwestern iced the game with a four-run top of the ninth.
The Cowboys used nine different pitchers in the game. Andrew Hernandez took the loss allowing three runs in an inning and two-thirds. Aaron Clark received the win for Southwestern working six innings allowing eight hits and seven earned runs. Machi Horne worked the final three innings for the save.
Jamie Dominguez had four hits for the Cowboys and Lillard drove in four runs. Dowdell had three hits and drove in five runs for the Pirates.
The Cowboys are 11-12 on the year and will play host to Belhaven this weekend starting with a doubleheader at 3 p.m. Friday. Southwestern improved to 14-6 on the year.
