BELTON, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' baseball team beat Mary Hardin-Baylor 3-2 on Friday night in American Southwest Conference action at Red Murff Field in Belton.
Hayden Clark continued to pitch well for the Cowboys as he improved to 5-2 on the year. He went seven and two-third innings and scattered eight hits and allowed just one run while striking out six. He left with runners on the corners and two outs in the eighth.
Taylor McMackin came on and got out of the jam on one pitch and then worked around an error in the ninth and struck out Jackson Godoy to end the game and earn his second save of the year.
Brett Hudspeth gave the Cowboys a 1-0 lead in the first inning with an RBI single. UMHB tied the game in the second inning on a Hunter McQuary RBI single.
Tyler Bradshaw and Hudspeth had two hits each for HSU. The hit for Bradshaw pushed his hitting streak to 18 games. Caimyn Holiday and Malek Bolin each had two hits for UMHB.
Cameron Whitman was solid for the Cru. He went seven innings and struck out 10 while allowing three runs on eight hits. Ross Baer worked two scoreless innings.
The Cowboys improved to 14-14 overall and 10-6 in league play. UMHB had its four-game winning streak snapped and fell to 9-19 overall and 4-9 in ASC play. The teams will try to play a doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Saturday, weather permitting.
