Cowboys Close Season With Loss In ASC Tournament

AUSTIN, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' baseball team saw its season come to a close with a 6-2 loss to East Texas Baptist in the American Southwest Conference Tournament on Saturday evening in Austin. 

ETBU scored four times in the first inning. The Tigers first run came on a double steal. Zach Gartner added an RBI single to make it 2-0. Gartner came around to score on a bizarre play when a live ball ricocheted into the Cowboys' dugout and Brady Faulkner had a sacrifice fly.

The Tigers scored two more runs in the fourth inning when Zach McAdams had an RBI fielder's choice on a ground ball fielder's choice and then Casey Combs had an infield single. It was the last run of the game for the Tigers.

HSU added a single run in the seventh inning on an RBI double by Hunter Garrison and John Paul Tople had an RBI double in the ninth inning.

Tyler Bradshaw and Tople had two hits each for the Cowboys and Casey Combs, Seth Mikeska and Brady Faulkner had two hits each for the Tigers.

Jaxon Terrell (3-4) took the loss for the Cowboys as he allowed six runs in three innings. Brady Roper tossed five scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

Adrian Stover worked into the ninth innings and allowed just two runs on six hits. Erik Gipson worked the final inning for the Tigers.

The Cowboys finish the season with a record of 19-22 and East Texas Baptist improved to 30-13.

It was the final game for six Cowboy seniors – Roper, Linahan, Gunny Evans, Matthew Lillard, Dylan Sweeney and Tyler Pippin.
