SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's golf team shot a 296 in the opening round of the Alamo City Classic at the par-71, 6,699-yard Quarry Golf Club in San Antonio on Monday.
The top five teams are separated by just six shots. Mary Hardin-Baylor leads with a 292, Trinity is second with a 294, Schreiner shot a 295, HSU and LeTourneau each shot 296 and Houston-Victoria had a 298. The University of Dallas and Texas Lutheran each shot 305, Howard had a 306 and Trinity B shot a 311.
Redshirt freshman Robert Quintana led the Cowboys and is second overall after shooting a 4-under par 68. Matt Jouett had a 74, Jonathon Hester shot a 76 and Bobby Johnson carded a 78. Canyon Winters was the toss-out score with an 82.
Landon Oney of LeTourneau leads Quintana by one stroke in the medalist race.
The teams will conclude the tournament with 18 holes on Tuesday.
