Cowboys Will Play Trinity in NCAA First Round

INDIANAPOLIS -- Hardin-Simmons' men's soccer team will open its run toward the 2014 NCAA Division III Soccer national title with a game against Trinity on Saturday in Richardson at Texas-Dallas.

UTD will play Pomona-Pitzer and the winner will play the HSU-Trinity winner on Sunday. Game times for the first and second rounds have not been determined.

HSU earned the American Southwest Conference's automatic berth with a 2-0 win over Texas-Dallas on Sunday in Richardson. It was the second-straight ASC title for the Cowboys and the ninth in school history.

It marks the fifth time HSU and Trinity have played in the NCAA Tournament. HSU lost in four overtimes 3-2 in 2000, lost 3-2 in 2005, lost 2-0 in 2006 and won 2-0 in 2009. All four previous meetings have been in San Antonio.

The two teams opened the season on Sept. 5 in Georgetown with Trinity winning 2-1 in overtime. HSU is 9-4-2 on the year. Trinity is ranked No. 2 and is 21-1. Their only loss of the year came to UTD.

HSU is making its seventh appearance in the Division III tournament. The Cowboys are 2-6 all-time. They lost 2-1 in overtime to Puget Sound in the opening round last season.
