Cowboys Record Third Straight Shutout
BROWNWOOD, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's soccer team won its third straight 1-0 game with a win at Howard Payne in American Southwest Conference action on Thursday afternoon at Citizens National Bank Field in Brownwood.

The Cowboys scored the only goal of the game in the 13th minute on a pass from Cole Johnson to Blake Odell.

The game was competitive throughout with the HPU holding an 11-9 lead in shots and HSU leading 5-4 in shots on frame.

Michael Vargas recorded his 21st career shutout in goal with four saves. He has five shutouts on the year and three in a row.

Game Notes

  • The Cowboys have played five straight 1-0 games and have gone 4-1.
  • Every HSU game this season has been either a tie or determined by a one-goal difference.
  • Odell, a freshman, recorded his first career goal.


Records

HSU is now 5-3-1 on the year and 3-1-0 in ASC play. Howard Payne fell to 2-5 overall and 0-3 in league play.
