Cowboys Battle to 1-1 Tie with Ozarks, Eagles Advance on PKs

ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's soccer team played to a 1-1 tie with the Ozarks Eagles in the first round of the American Southwest Conference Tournament on Tuesday night, and the Eagles advanced on PKs 5-4.

Mackenson Cadet bounced in a header thanks to an Austin Wills free kick in the 11th minute to give the Cowboys an early 1-0 lead. The Eagles' Alain Claude scored from a Lorfils Milord assist in the 46th minute to tie the game at 1-1.

The hard-fought game included six yellow cards and 39 fouls combined between the teams. The overtime minutes proved as much of a stalemate as the first 90, and penalty kicks ensued to decide the advancing team in the ASC Championship Tournament.

The Eagles advanced on penalty kicks 5-4 out of six total kicks per team.

The Cowboys had 12 shots and seven on frame while Ozarks posted 19 shots and seven on goal. The Cowboys had one corner to Ozarks' five.

Trent Ivy started in goal for the Cowboys and had six saves in the match. Logan Valestin played keeper for the Eagles and had six saves, including one on a PK.

The Cowboys now have a record of 14-3-2 and the remainder of their season will be determined by the NCAA Selection Committee next week.
