ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team moved to 3-0 on the season with an 89-68 win over Arlington Baptist University on Tuesday night at the Mabee Complex.
The Cowgirls were again solid defensively throughout the contest as they forced the Patriots into 26 turnovers. HSU struggled from the perimeter most of the contest going just 6-for-25 through the first three quarters.
However, the Cowgirls put the game away in the fourth quarter with seven 3-pointers, including three by Taylor Gaffney. HSU was able to garner a huge advantage in the game from the bench as HSU outscored ABU 32-11 off the bench.
The game never had much flow as the teams combined for 50 fouls and 50 turnovers in a tightly called game.
Gaffney led the Cowgirls with 28 points, which topped her previous career-high of 25 points. She also set a new career-best with six 3-pointers and added five steals. Kaitlyn Ellis also hit double figures with 10 points and seven assists.
Peniah Waites led the Patriots with 18 points and Aalyiah Clark added 12 points and six assists.
HSU is 3-0 on the year and ABU fell to 1-3. HSU will play at Trinity at 6 p.m. on Sunday.
