Cowgirls Jump On Kangaroos

ABILENE, Texas — On the coolest day of the fall so far in Abilene, with a strong north wind, the Hardin-Simmons women's soccer team beat Austin College, 4-0, in non-conference action at the HSU Soccer Complex.

The Cowgirls played against the 20-25 MPH wind in the first half and despite a huge advantage in possession led just 1-0.

Miranda Bersosa scored her 11th goal of the season at the 18:43 mark to give HSU a 1-0 lead on a nice passing combination from Brittany Vacca to Devon Howard to Bersosa.

HSU, who outshot AC 30-1 in the game and 13-1 on goal, came out strong in the second half. Taylor Thigpen had a nice centering pass to Megan Ryan who delivered her second goal of the season to make it 2-0 at the 49:18 mark.

Vivian Wells and Kylie Rutherford added goals for HSU at 74:02 and 82:00 and both came off assists from Kati McCarty.

Becca Roth and Haley Martin each played in goal for the Cowgirls. Maya Warnock had nine saves for Austin College.

The Cowgirls have won 13 straight and are now 13-1 on the year. Austin College fell to 6-6 overall.

HSU closes its regular-season home slate with games against Texas Lutheran and Schreiner on Friday and Saturday at 1 p.m. at the HSU Soccer Complex.
