ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's soccer team won their third game in a row 3-1 over the Piedmont College Lions at the HSU Soccer Complex on Saturday night.
The Cowgirls had a barrage of corners that led to their first goal in the 29th minute off the head of Rachel Bean with the ball in by Madelyn Dowell. Avery Lara got the lead up to 2-0 for the Cowgirls with a goal across the box after an Addison Ramirez cross in the 43rd minute.
The Cowgirls held the Lions in check until an unfortunate bounce led to a handball call on the Cowgirls inside the box for a penalty kick in the 77th minute. The Lions' Anslyn Stamps finished the PK to make it 2-1 HSU.
The Cowgirls had 25 shots and nine on frame and the Lions had 11 shots with five on goal. The Cowgirls had 12 corner kicks to the Lions two.
Kayla Gable got the start for the Cowgirls and had four saves, one bouncing in off the crossbar and batted out by Gable after a set piece. The Piedmont keeper Miranda McNalley had six saves in the game.
The Cowgirls get their third win in a row to make it 3-2-1 on the season. The team will stay at home to play Louisiana College next Thursday at 5 p.m. to open up American Southwest Conference play.
