Cowgirls Open ASC Play with Win over LC

ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's soccer team won 10-0 over the Louisiana College Wildcats on Thursday night at the HSU Soccer Complex in American Southwest Conference play.

Madelyn Dowell opened the scoring in style with an olimpico-goal left-footed off her corner in the second minute of the game to make it 1-0 Cowgirls early. Dowell sent another corner to teammate Rachel Bean who headed in the second Cowgirl goal in the 12th minute.

Randie Dennison got her first goal of the season off a Mackensie Moreno assist in the 14th minute and Dennison repaid the favor and assisted on Moreno's first goal five minutes later to make it 4-0 Cowgirls.

Bean added another header goal from a Dowell corner in the 22nd minute, and then Taylor Bernal got her day started with a breakaway goal in the 28th minute making it 6-0 HSU.

Freshman Jenna Kirk got her first collegiate goal on a nice header after another Cowgirl corner in the 32nd minute, this time off the leg of Irene Ramirez. Bernal was just getting warmed up with her second goal in the 37th minute, this time from an Alexis Sciano assist, making it 8-0 Cowgirls headed to half.

In the 72nd minute, Taylor Ehlert launched a flip throw-in to the box where Kirk assisted on what was the hat-trick goal for Bernal. And for the last Cowgirl goal, you guessed it, Taylor Bernal finished it off another Ramirez corner to get the total to 10-0 Cowgirls.

The Cowgirls had 38 shots and 19 on goal in the contest along with 19 corner kicks. Taylor Bernal had the hat trick plus one, Rachel Bean also had a pair of goals, and Madelyn Dowell had the ridiculous score off the corner kick to open the game for the Cowgirls.

Kayla Gable got the start and shutout win in goal for Hardin-Simmons. Madison McDowell started in goal for the Wildcats and had nine saves in the match.

HSU moves to 4-2-1 on the season and 1-0 In the ASC and the Wildcats fall to 1-5-1 and 0-1 in conference. The Cowgirls return home this Saturday, September 28 at 5 p.m. to face Belhaven in another American Southwest Conference matchup.
