Cowgirls Top Blazers 5-0 for Fifth Straight Win

ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's soccer team won 5-0 over the Belhaven Blazer in Saturdays night's American Southwest Conference matchup at the HSU Soccer Complex.

Kendell Groom opened the day for the Cowgirls with her first goal of the season, looping it across the box assisted by Rachel Bean and Randie Dennison in the 12th minute. Casady Jenkins scored the second Cowgirl goal off a Madelyn Dowell corner kick in the 30th minute.

Freshman Jessica Boldenow got her first career goal on a header from an Irene Ramirez corner in the 40th minute to make it a 3-0 Cowgirl lead at half. 

Taylor Bernal took a penalty kick for the Cowgirls in the 50th minute which was saved, but Bernal scored off the deflection to make it 4-0 HSU. Groom intercepted a clearance pass and dropped in a long goal to finish the scoring off for the Cowgirls in the 56th minute, making it a 5-0 Cowgirl win.

The Cowgirls had 19 shots and nine on target and the Blazer had three shots on the day. The Cowgirls won the corner kicks margin with eight to the Blazers' one.

Kayla Gable got the start in goal and had the shutout victory for the Cowgirls. The Blazers started Allison Sherman who had four saves in the loss.

The Cowgirls make it five straight wins to bring their record to 5-2-1 on the year and 2-0 in the ASC. Belhaven moves to 4-4-1 and 0-2 in conference. HSU Soccer will be on the road next week playing at East Texas Baptist in Marshall, Texas starting at 5 p.m. on Thursday.
