Cowgirls Comeback, Win 2-1 over Howard Payne

BROWNWOOD, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's soccer team came from behind to win 2-1 playing against the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets on the road on Thursday afternoon in American Southwest Conference play.

The Cowgirls outshot the Yellow Jackets 29 to one, but Howard Payne scored with a Heaven Rossette goal in the 64th minute to take the lead 1-0.

The Cowgirls would score in the 85th minute with a Taylor Bernal goal and with the game tied 1-1 late, Madelyn Dowell scored in the 89th minute to get the 2-1 comeback win for the Cowgirls.

The Cowgirls had 26 shots and 16 on goal and the Yellow Jackets had one shot that was on frame. The Cowgirls had 14 corners in the game to Howard Payne's zero.

Haley Foley started at keeper for the Cowgirls and got the win. Howard Payne goalkeeper Delaney Castor totaled 14 saves in the contest.

The Cowgirls improve to 10-2-1 on the season and 7-0 in ASC play. Howard Payne falls to 6-8-1 and 2-5 in the conference.  The Cowgirls will play next at Sul Ross State in Alpine on Saturday at 1 p.m.
