Cowgirls Drop Game to McMurry

ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' softball dropped the last game of a three-game series to McMurry 7-0 on Sunday in American Southwest Conference action.

The Cowgirls went down 4-0 early after a trifecta of defensive errors in the first inning. The team was able to stabilize but could not overcome the deficit and lost by a final of 7-0.

Brookelyn Casper had the start and was tagged with the loss for the Cowgirls, however she only allowed two hits and two earned runs while being the victim of three defensive errors in the first inning. Gabby Ortega came in and pitched seven innings of great work in relief.

For McMurry, Hope Schoeneman went all seven innings with eight strikeouts and only five hits allowed in the win.

Kate Tovar led the Cowgirls with a pair of hits. Kasey Woolard had two doubles and three RBIs for the War Hawks.

The Cowgirls are now 4-8 on the year and 1-2 in ASC play. McMurry moves to 7-7 and 2-4 in conference. HSU softball returns to action next Friday at home against Concordia for a double header at 1 and 3 p.m.
