Cowgirls Split Friday Double Header Against UMHB

BELTON, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' softball split the first two games against UMHB in Belton on Friday night, winning 2-0 in game one and falling 4-0 in game two in American Southwest Conference play.

Gabby Ortega started on the mound for the Cowgirls in game one and threw a complete seven innings for the fourth straight appearance. She only allowed four hits and helped herself on offense with a double and a homerun, getting the win 2-0.

CeCe Darilek got the start on the mound for the Cru. Bayleigh Grogan also pitched for UMHB in game one.

Camille Scott got the Cowgirl start in game two and threw three innings. Rhyan Voss and Taylor Hinojos also pitched for the Cowgirls. Kathryn Reed went all seven innings for the Cru and got the win with eight strikeouts.

Kate Tovar got the only Cowgirl hit of game two with a double. Milly Cesare led the Cru with three hits and three RBIs in their 4-0 win.

The Cowgirls move to 8-9 on the season and 5-3 in the ASC. The Cru is now 6-9 overall and 6-5 in the conference. The third and final game in the series will be played tomorrow in Belton at 12 p.m.
