Cowgirls Drop Series to UMHB

BELTON, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' softball dropped the final game of a three-game series with UMHB in Belton on Saturday by a final score of 3-0 in American Southwest Conference play.

Kourtney Cummings got the game going for the Cru with an RBI double in the bottom of the first to make it 1-0 UMHB. Cummings would later have two more RBIs off singles in the third and fifth innings to round out the 3-0 win for the Cru.

Gabby Ortega got the start for the Cowgirls and went six innings with six hits allowed and only two earned runs. She took the loss for the Cowgirls, making her overall record 3-2 on the mound.

Kathryn Reed pitched a complete game for the Cru with eight strikeouts allowing only three hits to get the win.

Kate Tovar led the Cowgirls with a double, while Cummings was the best for the Cru with a three-hit game including a double and all three of her team's RBIs.

The Cowgirls drop two out of three games in the series, now with a record of 8-10 and 5-4 in the ASC. The Cru sits at 7-9 overall and 7-5 in the conference.

The Cowgirls return home next weekend and there's no better place to be for spring break then Ellis Field on Friday at 1 p.m. for the start of a Hardin-Simmons' softball homestand against the visiting Sul Ross State Lobos.
