ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' softball split a double header with Ozarks in American Southwest Conference play on Saturday in the last home softball game of the year for the Cowgirls.
The Cowgirls dropped game one 5-4, a game that had a combined 23 hits, 12 for Ozarks and 11 for HSU.
Taylor Hinojos got the start and had the loss for the Cowgirls. Camille Scott pitched in relief as well. Abby Mork started for the Eagles and threw all seven innings and only gave up four runs with six strikeouts in the win.
Kaitlin Ammermann had two hits and two RBIs for the Cowgirls while Hailey Ostrander and three other Eagles had two hits to lead their team.
Paige Lee tied the game for Ozarks 3-3 in the fourth before Cox doubled home two more in the bottom of the inning to retake the lead 5-3. The Cowgirls would get one more run after a Kenzee Hessert double to score Cox and hold that lead to win 6-3.
Ortega got the start for the Cowgirls and had two strikeouts. Scott only allowed three hits in relief and had two strikeouts. Candace Rogers started for the Eagles in the loss and Jaela Martin also pitched later in the game.
Cox had three hits and three RBIs for the Cowgirls with a double. Paige Lee had three hits for Ozarks with a pair of RBIs.
The Cowgirls finish the regular season at 19-21 and 14-13 in the ASC and Ozarks ends with a 12-28 record and 9-21 in the conference. The Cowgirls have locked in the number four seed in the ASC heading into the conference tournament next week. We will update you on the tournament specifics next week.
