Cowgirls Win, Move on to Friday

MARSHALL, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' softball won their first game in the ASC Softball Tournament hosted by ETBU on Thursday by a final score of 4-1 over Sul Ross State.  

The Lobos scored in the first inning and led for five innings until Sidney Cox singled to score Stephanie Pfeifer from second to tie the game 1-1.

In the sixth inning, Taylor Hinojos hit a stand-up triple to score Kenzee Hessert making it 2-1 Cowgirls. A couple Lobo errors gave the Cowgirls two more runs to make it 4-1, a lead they would hold to get the win.

Hinojos had two hits for the Cowgirls including the big RBI triple to take the lead in the sixth. Payslee Sims led the Lobos with a hit and an RBI.

Gabby Ortega pitched for the Cowgirls going seven innings and only allowing four hits and one run in the win. Jodie Vaughn started and threw the whole game for Sul Ross.

The Cowgirls move on to play ETBU tomorrow at 1 P.M. in the double-elimination portion of the tournament.
