Cowgirls Sweep Sul Ross State In Alpine


ALPINE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' volleyball team went on the road to Alpine and swept Sul Ross State, 25-17, 25-14, 25-22 in American Southwest Conference volleyball action on Friday evening. 

A 7-0 run in the first set gave the Cowgirls a comfortable 13-5 lead and HSU was able to run out the game. The Cowgirls jumped out to a 15-1 lead in the second game. Another strong start pushed HSU to a 9-2 lead in the third game and they held on for the sweep.

HSU had a balanced attack led by Kaytlynn Lewis with eight kills, Sarah Bennett and Triniti Anderson had seven each and Hannah Langerman added five.

Karlie Knapek led the defense with 13 digs and Ashley Pierce had 24 assists and seven digs.

The Cowgirls are now 5-8 on the year and 2-4 in ASC action. Sul Ross State fell to 8-9 overall and 1-6 in conference play.

HSU returns home for a 1 p.m. game against Howard Payne on Saturday. The Cowgirls will honor their five seniors prior to the game.
