AUSTIN, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' volleyball team won the first game but dropped the next three in a 20-25, 25-20, 25-19, 25-6 American Southwest Conference loss at Concordia on Saturday.
The Cowgirls trailed 14-11 in the first game but rolled off a 9-2 run to take control of the set and won 25-20. In the second game, the teams were tied at 20, but the Tornados won five straight points to even the match.
In the third game, Concordia used another late rally. The game was tied at 17 and the Tornados won four straight points and finished on an 8-2 run. The final game Concordia jumped to a 11-1 lead and never looked back.
Triniti Anderson led the Cowgirls with 16 kills and Kaytlynn Lewis added eight. Ashley Pierce had a double-double with 34 assists and a team-best 12 digs. Mary Johnson added 11 digs and Chloe Calhoun-Rivera added 10 digs.
HSU is now 11-10 on the year and 8-6 in conference play. Concordia improved to 19-5 overall and 11-2 in league play. The Cowgirls will close their home and conference slate with a game against Sul Ross State on Thursday.
