RICHARDSON, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' volleyball team will open its run in the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Richardson against LeTourneau.
The event has been changed to a single-elimination format. The Cowgirls are the No. 1 wildcard and will play LeTourneau, the No. 2 team out of the ASC East Division. Concordia and McMurry will play the first game of the tournament at 5 p.m. on Thursday.
The Cowgirls (12-12) would advance to the ASC Semifinal on Friday at 7:30 p.m. with a win and would take on Mary Hardin-Baylor, the top seed out of the ASC West. The Championship is slated for 1 p.m. on Saturday.
HSU is making its 14th appearance in the ASC Championship. The Cowgirls have won six ASC titles (2005, 2007, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013). UMHB and UT Dallas have met in the championship each of the last five seasons.
The Cowgirls are led by senior setter Ashley Pierce who was named to the All-ASC West team for the fourth time earlier today. Freshman Triniti Anderson was named the ASC West freshman of the year and senior Mary Johnson was named the libero of the year.
Tickets for the championship are $10 for adults and $5 for students.
The ASC and UT Dallas are partnering with Children's Health Hospital to collect prize items for the patients in a community service project. Fans are encouraged to bring one of the following items and due to health regulations must be new.
