GEORGETOWN, Texas — Hardin-Simmons' baseball
team dropped a doubleheader to Southwestern, 4-3 and 13-0, on
Saturday afternoon at Rockwell Field in Georgetown.
In the first game, HSU took the lead in the first as J.T. Armstrong
doubled home Brian Weeks. Taylor Berlin had a fielder's
choice RBI and Armstrong had an RBI single to drive in two Cowboy
runs in the fifth inning.
Southwestern scored a run on two hits in the first and two runs on
three hits in the third. Southwestern scored the eventual winning
run in the fourth, taking advantage of two hit by pitches and a
run-scoring double.
Armstrong and Regan Dixon had two hits each for the Cowboys.
Will Burke (0-2) took the loss as he allowed four runs on seven
hits in four and one-third innings of work. Michael Reinhardt and
Kyle Barton worked one and two-third scoreless innings out of the
bullpen.
In the second game, the Cowboys managed just one hit and committed
four errors in the game. Tim Kriegel took the loss for the Cowboys
and J.T. Armstrong had the only hit. Kriegel allowed six runs in an
inning and two-thirds of work.
Brantley Freeman allowed one hit and struck out nine over six
innings to earn the win.
HSU is now 1-4 on the year and Southwestern improved to 6-4. HSU
will be in action next weekend in its first American Southwest
Crossover series against East Texas Baptist.
