The Hardin-Simmons strength and conditioning program strives to coach the whole person, not just the athlete. Teaching the student-athlete what to do with the other 23 hours in the day, by educating them in proper nutrition, hydration and sleep habits. The strength and conditioning program has a list of goals to achieve this holistic style of training:
- To have the most organized strength program
- To have the most supervised strength program
- To have the most injury-free athletic teams
- To have the most physically developed student-athletes
- To have the most mentally prepared student-athletes
- To have the most informed student-athletes
- To provide every student-athlete with a successful experience
- To enhance the gifts that every student-athlete is blessed with
A big part of how this is made a reality is through the internship program. Volunteer and student interns are given specific roles in training and teaching that allow increased development of the student-athlete. To achieve all of these goals, the strength staff holds responsibility in preparing the student-athletes in proper movement, strength, injury prevention, teamwork, discipline, leadership in training, as well as mental toughness, in conjunction with the athletic training staff and the coaches for each team.
