TYLER, Texas -- Hardin-Simmons baseball team
could not find a way to muster any offense in a 7-0 loss to
fifth-ranked Texas-Tyler in non-conference action Tuesday evening
at Irwin Field in Tyler.
The Cowboys managed just two hits, a one-out single by James Gage
in the second inning and a Matt Roam leadoff single in the ninth
inning.
Tommy Rozzell (2-0) was dominating on the mound for the Patriots as
he struck out 12 batters and walked just one in seven innings of
work.
Freshman Michael Rinehardt (0-1) got the start on the mound, and
although none of the six runs he allowed were unearned, the Cowboy
defense did not help him with three throwing errors. He went three
and one-third innings, allowing seven hits.
Eric Roten had the best outing of his career out of the bullpen. He
worked four and two-third innings allowing only three hits and one
run.
HSU is now 4-5 on the year and UT-Tyler improved to 9-1. HSU will
play at LeTourneau on Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m.
