ABILENE, Texas — Hardin-Simmons'
baseball team dropped its second straight game to open the season
with a 5-3 loss to Oklahoma Baptist, Saturday evening at Hunter
Field in Abilene.
The Cowboys pitched much better than in the loss in the season
opener on Friday. Oklahoma Baptist got on the board in the third
inning on an RBI single, but HSU came right back in the bottom of
the third for three runs.
Joey Dearing led off with a single to left field and moved to
second on a wild pitch. Brian Weeks drove him in with a single to
right. Matt Roam followed that with a double to right to put
runners on second and third. James Gage drove them both home with a
double to the gap in right center.
OBU scored an unearned run on a throwing error and also hit a solo
home run in the fourth and gave up a pair of solo home runs to Josh
Colazo in the fifth and seventh innings.
Weeks, Roam, Dearing and Regan Dixon all had two hits each in the
Cowboys 10-hit attack. Tim Kriegel took the loss as he allowed
three earned runs in four and 1/3 innings of work. Sam Walker
worked two and two-third innings allowing only one run and Kyle
Barton threw two scoreless innings, with five strikeouts.
HSU is 0-2 on the year and OBU improved to 2-1. HSU will play at
Texas-Dallas on Tuesday.
