ABILENE, Texas — Hardin-Simmons' baseball team lost a
13-6 game to Lubbock Christian, the No. 1 NAIA team in the nation
on Tuesday evening at Hunter Field.
LCU got on the board with two runs in the first inning on a Will
Stramp groundout and a solo home run by Ross Blondin. LCU added
three more runs in the third on a two-run double by Blondin and a
RBI single by Tyler Johnson.
The Chaparrals made it 9-0 in the fourth inning when Jaime
Armendarez hit a two-run home run, Tanner Rindels had a solo home
run and Dan Neumann an RBI single.
HSU scored a run in the fourth inning when Michael Morgan singles
home Regan Dixon who had doubled. The Chaparrals made it 10-1 on a
Stramp RBI single.
The Cowboys added four runs in the sixth inning. James Gage had a
two-run single and Jaxon Jordan had a two-run pinch-hit home run.
It was the third home run of the year for Jordan. Brian Weeks had a
double and moved to third on a ground out and scored on a ground
ball to second for the Cowboys final run. Taylor Johnson had a
three-run home run for LCU in the eighth.
Kevin Burns, the second of four LCU pitchers, earned the win he
worked two innings and gave up just one run. Taylor Berlin took the
loss for the Cowboys. He allowed seven runs on eight hits in
three-plus innings.
Gage and Dixon had two hits for the Cowboys. Blondin hit for the
cycle for LCU and scored four times and drove in three. Johnson had
two RBIs.
With the loss, the Cowboys fell to 16-13 overall. Lubbock
Christian improved to 30-4. HSU will be home this weekend for a
three-game American Southwest Conference series with Howard Payne,
beginning Friday night at 7 p.m.
