ABILENE, Texas -- Hardin-Simmons big matchup with Texas Lutheran
turned one-sided in a hurry as Texas Lutheran jumped out to a 10-0
lead after the third inning and never looked back, taking the first
game of the three-game American Southwest Conference series 19-11
Friday night at Hunter Field.
TLU scored two runs in the first when Brian Weeks threw away a ball
at first with two outs. TLU manufactured a run in the second when
Chris Siniff reached on a fielding error by Taylor Berlin. In the
third another error led to seven unearned runs and it was 10-0.
Siniff had a two-run single in the inning, Kyle Harvey, Ryan
Nokelby and Jeremy Macklin had RBI singles and Drew Farr ha an RBI
fielder's choice in the inning.
Cody Miller had a home run in the fourth and Harvey had an RBI
single for TLU. HSU scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth.
J.T. Armstrong had an RBI double and Jaxon Jordan scored on an RBI
triple. Taylor Berlin added an RBI single. TLU came right back with
runs in the fifth with a two-run double by Cody Miller and a Chris
Green RBI triple. Macklin had an RBI single and Farr had a two-run
home run in the sixth to make it 18-5.
Berlin and Matt Roam had solo home runs for the Cowboys in the
sixth and seventh innings and HSU added five runs in the ninth.
Bryan Blare had an RBI on a ground ball to second. Michael Morgan
had a sacrifice fly. Jordan had a two-run double and Weeks tripled
and scored on a wild pitch.
Sam Walker (5-2) took the loss for the Cowboys as he allowed 10
runs in two and two-third innings but none of the runs were earned.
Brad Orosey went eight innings for Texas Lutheran and allowed 10
hits and six runs. He struck out 11 and improved to 9-1.
Jaxon Jordan led the Cowboy offense with three RBIs. Matt Roman had
three hits. Macklin had four hits for Texas Lutheran and Cody
Miller had four RBIs.
The Cowboys fell to 23-15 with the loss and TLU improved to 27-11
overall and 15-4 in league play. The teams will play a 1 p.m.
doubleheader on Saturday. The Cowboys need one win tomorrow to
secure a home-playoff game and need two wins to tie for the ASC
West title with Texas Lutheran.
