ABILENE, Texas — Hardin-Simmons' baseball team picked
up its 20th win of the season with a 26-6 run-rule of Austin
College on Tuesday afternoon at Hunter Field.
The Cowboys scored single runs in the first through third innings
and added four in the fourth to make it 7-2. Brian Weeks scored on
the back end of a double steal in the first, James Gage had a solo
home run in the second and Weeks stole home in the third. HSU
scored four runs in the fourth on a two-run single by Weeks, an RBI
single by Kyle Post and a wild pitch.
HSU added six runs in the sixth to make it 13-3. Gage had a two-run
triple, J.T. Armstrong a sacrifice fly, Jaxon Jordan an RBI double
and an RBI single by Michael Morgan. Austin College scored three
runs on a double by Brian Buheler to make it 13-6 in the top of the
seventh.
HSU exploded for 13 runs on 11 hits in the bottom of the seventh
inning. Nine of the 11 hits were singles in the inning. Armstrong
had two two-run singles in the inning. Jaxon Jordan had a pair of
RBI doubles, Gage had a sacrifice fly, Bryan Blare, Weeks, Post and
Kyle Bartlett each had RBI singles for the Cowboys in the
inning.
Weeks had five hits for the Cowboys and scored five runs. Jordan
had three doubles, scored four times and drove in three and
Armstrong drove in five. Gage was 2-for-2 with a home run, a
triple, four RBIs and three runs scored.
Taylor Berlin (2-1) picked up the win on the mound. He went five
innings and allowed only two hits and two runs. Lee Frank took the
loss for Austin College.
The Cowboys are now 20-13 on the year and Austin College fell to
9-21. HSU will play a three-game series at Sul Ross State,
beginning on Thursday at 7 p.m.
