ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl soccer team won 4-0 over the Concordia Texas Tornados in American Southwest Conference play to improve to 5-1-1 in the ASC with a hat trick from
Julie Atlason.
The Cowgirls honored three seniors before the match,
Haley Foley,
Odessa Leal, and
Alyssa Stanley.
Julie Atlason started the great night taking the ball into the defense and hitting a goal in the bottom net for a 1-0 game in the third minute for HSU.
Lexi Templin finished another Cowgirl goal in the fifth minute after a
Mercy Mummert shot was rebounded to make it 2-0.
Atlason added a second goal after a feed from
Keanne Alamo in the 62
nd on a tight angle to make it 3-0 Cowgirls. A corner kick in from Alamo banked off Mummert to Atlason for her hat trick goal of the night in the 71
st minute, taking the finish to 4-0 Hardin-Simmons.
Atlason now has six goals on the year after the hat trick and Templin leads the team with 14 goals. With two more assists tonight, Alamo now has 11 to lead the Cowgirls and Mummert is up to three assists.
The Cowgirls shot 23 times with 15 shots on goal to 11 shots for the Tornados with one on frame. HSU had eight corner kicks and
Haley Foley finished with a save in the start with 84 minutes before
Abigail Medlin finished for the Cowgirls at keeper.
The Cowgirls improve to 12-1-2 and 5-1-1 in the ASC while Concordia falls to 2-5-8 and 1-2-4 in conference. HSU will head to UT-Dallas on Thursday at 5 p.m. for another ASC game in Richardson.
