ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl volleyball team defeated the LeTourneau YellowJackets 3-1 in American Southwest Conference play on Friday night for Cowgirl Senior Night.
Hardin-Simmons honored two very special seniors before the match,
Helena Vazquez and
Lydia Headley.
The Cowgirls won with set scores of 27-25, 18-25, 25-21, 25-23. HSU battled in the first set after trailing at set point 23-24 and ended with the win.
LeTourneau took set two with a hot start and was leading set three with the match at 1-1. The Cowgirls rattled off a 7-0 run to take a 9-4 lead in the third before eventually taking the set with three straight to win 25-21.
The Cowgirls ended the night with a big block from
Rylee Ortega and
Rachel Nordt to take the match 3-1 over the YellowJackets. Nordt had eight total blocks in the match for HSU.
Liz Underwood led the offense with 13 kills.
Jadyn Hernandez hit 12 kills and
Lauren Sullivan finished with ten kills.
Ali Meyer and
Keatyn Rodgers had 23 assists each to lead the Cowgirls while Meyer and
Kat Martinez each had 21 digs. Underwood also had 19 digs for HSU.
The Cowgirls pull the record even at 12-12 and 6-6 in the ASC with at 10-12 and 5-7 in conference. The Cowgirls finish the regular season next week on the road at ETBU and UT Dallas on Friday and Saturday.
