KERRVILLE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy basketball team celebrated head coach
Matt Brackett's 100
th career win on Thursday night, defeating Schreiner 84-70 on the road for Hardin-Simmons' eighth win in a row, making the team 11-2.
The Cowboys fought tooth and nail in the first half, down 39-38 to the Mountaineers after 20 minutes.
HSU shot 39% going 16-41 in the first half, trailing by 11 at one point, down 21-10 with ten minutes left in the first half. A pair of good runs put the Cowboys back in it at the half.
The Cowboys were hot in the second half and worked up to a 62-52 lead with 11 minutes left in the second half.
Hardin-Simmons led by as many as 18 points in the second half and held the comfortable lead to coach Brackett's 100
th career win 84-70.
HSU shot 48% in the game and nearly 60% in the second half to get the win. The Cowboys led rebounding over the Mountaineers 41-37 and held Schreiner to shooting 35%.
Four Cowboys scored double-figures, led by
Will Bartoszek with 21 points and seven rebounds.
Jason Justice scored 16 for HSU while
Austin Brewer had 14 points and freshman
Colin Roberts scored 11 points. Brewer led with nine rebounds and
Jalen McGee had another great night passing with five assists for the Cowboys.
Hardin-Simmons improves to 11-2 this season and will take off the weekend for Christmas, with the next action being an exhibition at West Texas A&M on Dec. 30 at 3 p.m. in Canyon. The Cowboys will be back in the Mabee Complex to host UMHB on Jan. 11 at 7:30 p.m.
