ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy basketball team went to 7-2 after a 70-64 win over the Sul Ross State Lobos on Saturday afternoon at the Mabee Athletic Complex.
Hardin-Simmons started hot opening the game out 8-0 over the Lobos, but Sul Ross matched up well against the Cowboys and shot 55% from the field in the first half to take a 37-30 lead going in at the break.
After a tough half on offense, the Cowboys opened the second half with an 8-0 run to take the lead 38-37.
The game had eight ties and eight lead changes, and the Cowboys led by as many as 12 on a couple occasions in the second half, going on to win 70-64.
Close contests usually come down to free throws, which neither team excelled at on the day, Sul Ross shooting 21-31 and Hardin-Simmons going 15-25 from the line. HSU had 38 rebounds to 39 for Sul Ross and won the turnover battle with 11 while forcing 20 from the Lobos.
Will Bartoszek scored 27 and led with 11 rebounds for the Cowboys. He also had six steals on defense.
Silas Livingston had an efficient game, shooting 4-5 and 3-4 from downtown with 12 points.
Austin Brewer had 12 points and nine rebounds for the Cowboys.
Hardin-Simmons goes to 7-2 with the win over the Lobos and will host Ozarks in ASC okay next Saturday at 3 p.m.
