ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl soccer team came back to tie McMurry 2-2 on Saturday night in American Southwest Conference play to remain unbeaten on the year.
The Cowgirls had an unfortunate start with the Abilene wind in their face in the first half, helping setup two quick War Hawk goals in the 8th and 11
th minutes of the match to make it 2-0.
Kirsten Bush closed the gap right before half with her third goal of the season assisted by
Lexi Templin in the 40
th minute for a 2-1 halftime score.
Gabby Aviles went for her sixth goal of the season to save the day in the 52
nd minute, leading to the 2-2 draw for the Cowgirls at McMurry.
Hardin-Simmons led as usual in shots with 21, putting six on goal in the game while McMurry shot seven times, but made the first two count, scoring on the only shots on frame. HS also led with five corner kicks.
The Cowgirls remain unbeaten with a record of 7-0-2 and begin ASC play at 0-0-1. Hardin-Simmons soccer will go on the road in ASC play next week with matches at LeTourneau and ETBU on Thursday and Saturday, respectively, with the Cowgirls kicking off at 5 p.m.
