ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team fell 103-102 to Concordia in overtime on Saturday afternoon at the Mabee Complex.
The two teams battled in a hard fought first half and the Cowboys 47-40 lead matched the biggest lead for either team in the half.
HSU pushed the lead to 11 with the first two baskets of the second half but the Tornados came right back with a 9-0 run. Concordia took its first lead of the second half with a 3-pointer by Casey Thompson with 10:42 to play.
Concordia led 84-78 with 3:41 to play but the Cowboys battled back and
Jason Justice tied the game with a jumper with 1:16 to play. D.J. Pigford hit a jumper in the paint with :48 to play and
Jalen McGee hit a runner with :19 to play. HSU got a stop on the last possession as Donovan Stafford's shot at the buzzer came up short.
In overtime, the Tornados went 5-for-5 from the field and 4-for-5 at the free throw line to take the win.
HSU outrebounded the Tornados 53-38 and had 28 offensive rebounds. Concordia shot 53.7 percent from the field and hit 27-of-38 free throws.
Will Bartoszek scored 19 points and eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for his career.
Freshman
Colin Roberts led the Cowboys with a career-high 28 points and added 11 rebounds for his first career double-double.
Jalen McGee added 17 points and
Chris Bryant had 13 points and nine rebounds.
Pigford led the Tornados with 36 points, Thompson had 26, Henri Vizcarrondo scored 18 and Stafford had 14 points.
HSU is now 12-3 overall and 6-1 in ASC play. Concordia improved to 7-9 overall and 4-4 in league play. The Cowboys continue their homestand on Thursday when it plays East Texas Baptist at 7:30 p.m.
