MARSHALL, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl volleyball team ended the year with a 3-2 defeat against UMHB in the 2024 American Southwest Conference championship tournament semifinal match hosted by ETBU on Friday night.
The Cowgirls went down in the first two sets 25-23 and 27-25 to the Crusaders before storming back with two wins in sets three and four 25-23 and 25-22.
The Cowgirls trailed 9-4 in the fifth set before coming back to tie the game at 9-9. UMHB went on to win the set 15-12 and take the ASC semifinal match 3-2 over HSU.
Three Cowgirls were in double-digits for kills.
Abbi Allen hit 12 kills,
Liz Underwood had 12 kills, and
Jadyn Hernandez swung for 11 kills and led the team with six blocks.
Ali Meyer tied her season high with 29 assists on Friday. She had 12 digs as well for the double-double.
Keatyn Rodgers had 15 assists for the Cowgirls.
Leigh Jespersen led the team in digs with 20 against UMHB.
Kat Martinez had 14 digs and
Ari Villanueva and Brylee Purely each had 11 digs for Hardin-Simmons.
The Cowgirls finish the season with a record of 14-11 in the American Southwest Conference championship tournament semifinal.
