NEWBERG, Ore. – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl basketball team dropped the first game this season 59-57 to George Fox on Tuesday night after a buzzer beater score by the Bruins to take the lead as time expired.
 
The Cowgirls entered the west coast road trip undefeated at 5-0 this year matching up with George Fox coming in at 4-1. The Bruins led the Cowgirls 26-24 after a pair of free throws before halftime.
 
George Fox pushed the lead up to 41-35 after the third quarter, but the Cowgirls stormed back in the fourth.
 
Hardin-Simmons took the lead 47-46 with five minutes left in the game after a 
MaeSyn Gay steal turned into a 
Dylan Koele layup for the lead.
 
George Fox got the lead back, but the Cowgirls were able to tie the game at 57-57 with a 3-pointer from 
Aiken Semones with eight seconds left. The Bruins got a score as time expired for the 59-57 win, handing the Cowgirls their first loss of the season.
 
Semones, 
Jacqueline Berry, and 
Kynnan Shields each scored 11 points in Tuesday's game against George Fox. Semones finished with three 3-point makes and led with three assists. Gay led the team in rebounding with eight rebounds.
 
The Cowgirls fall to 5- 1 on the season and continue the trip Wednesday night against Pacific University at 5 p.m.
